Delete Your Penpoint Cloud Account

Last updated: September 29, 2026

This page explains how to delete your Penpoint Cloud account. It is the same account you use to sign in to the Penpoint desktop app's Cloud features and to Minipen, the Penpoint phone app for iPhone and Android. You do not need to sign in to read this page.

Deleting your Cloud account never touches the books stored on your computer. They stay on your computer and keep working in the Penpoint desktop app.

Option 1: Delete it in the Penpoint desktop app

  1. Open Penpoint on your computer and go to Settings, then Penpoint Cloud.
  2. In the Danger Zone section, choose Close my Penpoint Cloud account entirely.
  3. Type DELETE to confirm, then enter the confirmation code we email to you.

If you still have an active subscription, it is canceled as part of this step.

Option 2: Ask us by email

If you don't have access to the desktop app, email support@penpoint.app from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address before we act, so that no one else can delete your account. We respond within one month, and usually much sooner.

Why can't I delete it in Minipen?

Minipen can't create or delete accounts. Signing out of Minipen removes all the book copies stored on your phone, but your account and cloud copy stay as they are. Uninstalling Minipen does the same. To delete the account itself, use one of the two options above.

What gets deleted

  • Immediately: the encryption keys that protect your cloud books are destroyed, which makes every encrypted copy permanently unreadable. Your account email address and sign-in record are deleted.
  • Within 24 hours: your encrypted books, pictures, and version history, your device list, your synced preferences and Author Shelf items, and the service records tied to your account.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Subscription history (which plan you had and when, with no email address), kept for our business records.
  • An opaque tombstone ID with no email or personal details, kept so that the same account ID is never reused.
  • Internal storage clean-up records, which contain only internal IDs.
  • Disaster-recovery backups: our encrypted offsite backup may hold your account record, including your email address, for up to 60 days before it is automatically deleted. Encrypted book files in that backup can last longer, but because their keys were destroyed, no one, including us, can ever read them.
  • Billing records held by Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, which keeps them under its own legal obligations as Merchant of Record.
  • Emails you sent to support, kept for up to 24 months after your inquiry is resolved, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

Only want to erase your cloud books?

In the desktop app, Settings, then Penpoint Cloud, then Permanently erase all cloud backups destroys your cloud books and their keys but keeps your account, so you can start fresh without signing up again.
