Localization into multiple languages
Coming in v1.3.5A first (rough) pass at translating Penpoint into multiple languages
What's Next
What's next for Penpoint: features being built right now, what's planned, and ideas still under consideration.
Features actively being built right now. Likely to land in the next release or two.
A first (rough) pass at translating Penpoint into multiple languages
First stage of cloud-based multi-device sync and backup. Open a book on your laptop, keep writing on your desktop, and your changes follow you. Initial focus is reliable sync and offsite backup; collaborative features come later.
Directly import a Scrivener project and all its content natively into Penpoint
A completely new page that ties directly into the analytics system that Penpoint uses to track your writing habits. Create, track, and view goals, sprints, sessions, and have to-dos that put your entire writing system on track.
Build a mobile port of the Minipen sidebar from Manuscript Mode into a dedicated app that will work with Penpoint Sync. The app is not standalone, it requires the desktop version + an active Sync subscription in order to work, but will allow for editing of nearly all components of your world or manuscript while on the go!
Rebuild the Timeline view into something fully customizable. Add your own events, plot them on your book's calendar, and tie the timeline directly into the Calendar block from v1.2. Less rigid grid, more "*plan my story out over time*"
On the schedule. These features are committed and usually have a target version in mind.
Create, join, and participate in community events, hosted writing sprints, and app-wide goals
Different layouts for different character roles. Primary characters get the full deep-dive sheet; secondary characters get a focused middle ground; background characters get a lightweight card. Stop filling out the same form for your protagonist and a tavern keeper who appears in one scene.
Ideas under serious consideration for Penpoint. User feedback shapes which ones get promoted to Planned.
Add a new view mode to the Relationships Map that supports hierarchical based views. Useful for Family Trees or Org charts. This will also expand the Relationships Block to support ordered lineage.
Allow Penpoint to operate in multiple windows, useful for wide displays or dual-screen displays. Each window will operate independently but share the same data. Useful for having Manuscript Mode open on one window and Characters on the other, or Chapters in one window and the Notebook on the other. Requires a significant refactor of the code.
The ability to create and modify your own custom templates to reuse anytime you create a new book
Read your book the way your readers will. A clean two-page spread layout for full-manuscript reviews. Built for that "step back and see how it actually flows" moment in revision.
A dedicated writing mode for screenplays alongside Manuscript Mode. Industry-standard formatting (sluglines, dialogue, action, transitions) with all the same worldbuilding tools you already use for novels.
Bring the same custom color picker that powers Book Cover customization to every place you choose a color: themes, tags, arcs, and more. Fewer preset swatches, more "exactly the shade I wanted."
Beyond picking from the built-in themes (Default, Alice, Midnight, and friends), design your own. Pick every color in the interface, save your palette, share it with other writers.
Just landed in the latest releases. Click any version to jump to the changelog.
A third spellcheck layer alongside the built-in dictionary and your per-book custom words. Writers can submit modern coinages and missing words; curated additions ship to every Penpoint user, so the dictionary gets smarter the longer the community uses it.
Pin any note from the Notebook to a specific spot in your manuscript. Open the note and jump straight to where it lives in your prose. Perfect for tracking research, callbacks, or "fix this later" breadcrumbs.
Drop comments anywhere in your manuscript for self-edits, beta reader notes, or planning thoughts you want pinned to specific paragraphs. Comments stay anchored to the text even as you revise around them.
Add a "Notebook" block to Characters and Chapters, allowing you to link to a specific note inline with your character sheet.
Continue building out the import and export system. More export types, better error resolution, and complete round-trips so what comes out matches what went in.
