Advanced Settings

The Advanced page in Settings > Advanced contains troubleshooting tools and system-level settings that most writers won't need day-to-day, but they're here when you need them.

Hardware Acceleration

Penpoint uses your computer's graphics hardware to render the interface smoothly. On most machines this works perfectly, but on some systems it can cause visual problems: flickering, black screens, graphical glitches, or other display issues.

If you're experiencing any of these issues, try switching hardware acceleration to Disabled using the dropdown. This tells Penpoint to use software rendering instead, which is slower but avoids graphics driver conflicts.

After changing this setting, you'll need to restart Penpoint for it to take effect. A restart banner will appear with a Restart Now button: click it when you're ready.

Tip: If everything looks fine on your screen, leave this set to Enabled. You only need to change it if you're seeing visual problems.

Note: This setting is only available on Windows. macOS and Linux handle graphics rendering differently and don't need this toggle.

Support Logs

If something goes wrong and you need help troubleshooting, Penpoint can export its internal logs as a zip file. These logs record what the app was doing behind the scenes: things like which pages you visited, what actions you took, and any errors that occurred.

Click Save Logs to Disk to choose where to save the file. You can then share the zip with support or attach it to a bug report.

What's NOT in the logs: Your writing, characters, book content, and personal data are never included. Logs only contain technical information about how the app was running.

Tip: If Penpoint is behaving unexpectedly, export your logs before restarting; restarting clears the current session's log history.
