Relationships Block
Manages character-to-character relationships. Supports two-way (reciprocal) relationships, so you can track family ties, friendships, rivalries, and any other connections between your characters from both sides.
All relationships are visualized in the dynamic Map page, where you can see your entire character network as a visual map showing connections between characters.
Adding Relationships
To add a new relationship in Edit Mode (see View Mode vs Edit Mode):
- 1. Click "Add New Relationship" - A small form appears right there on the page
- 2. Select a character - Choose from existing characters, or use "Create New Character..." to create one on the spot
- 3. Enter relationship type - Type a label like "Friend", "Sister", or "Rival". Autocomplete suggests types you've used before
- 4. Optional: Enable two-way - Click the circular arrow icon (two arrows forming a circle) to create a two-way relationship with different labels for each direction. For example, what this character calls the relationship might be "Mentor", while what the other character calls it might be "Student"
- 5. Click "Apply" - Saves the relationship
Tip: Use the two-way option for asymmetric relationships where each character views the connection differently. For example: Character A sees the relationship as "Admires", but Character B sees it as "Mentors".
Editing & Deleting
In Edit Mode, hover over any relationship to reveal action buttons. Click the pencil icon to edit the relationship type or turn two-way on or off. Click the trash icon to remove the relationship entirely (both directions are deleted together).
Reading Relationships
- One-way: "Robin: Sidekick" means this character considers Robin a Sidekick
- Two-way (same type): A double-headed arrow (↔) appears before the name, e.g. "↔ Robin: Ally" — both characters share the same relationship type
- Two-way (different types): Shows what this character calls the relationship on the first line, and what the other character calls it on an indented sub-line, e.g. "Robin: Sidekick" with a return arrow (↵) "Batman: Mentor" beneath it
- Incoming only: If another character has a relationship pointing to this one, it shows up here. For example, if you defined "Mentor" on Gandalf pointing to Frodo, Frodo's page would show an incoming relationship from Gandalf.
Tip: In Settings > Character Sheet Setup, the Relationships Block has a "Swap Role Labels" option. When enabled, two-way relationships with different types show each character's name paired with their own role instead of the role assigned to them. This is purely visual and does not change your data.
Add and configure the Relationships Block in Settings > Character Sheet Setup. Only one Relationships Block allowed per layout.
