Managing Your Books
After creating your books in Penpoint, you have several tools available to manage them. This section covers editing book details, duplicating books, writing a series, backing up your data, and deleting books you no longer need.
The Book Menu
Every book in your library has a three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper-right corner of its book card (the rectangle showing your book's name and color in the library). Click it to see the following options:
- Edit: Update your book's name, description, or color
- Duplicate: Create a copy of a book, picking what to copy over, perfect for alternate versions or template reuse
- Convert to Series…: Turn a standalone book into Book 1 of a series, so every volume shares the same characters, locations, and items. See Converting a Book to a Series
- Export Book: Save your entire book as a single .penpoint file, handy for backups or for sharing it with someone else. See Exporting a Book
- Restore from Backup...: View backup history and restore a previous version of your book
- Delete: Penpoint will ask you to confirm by typing your book's name before anything is removed. See Deleting a Book below for details.
Tip: If you have a secondary backup location set up in Settings, those external backups are not affected by deletion. Even after deleting a book, your secondary backups remain safe in that folder.
Tip: To bring a book IN from a .penpoint file (one you exported, or that someone shared with you), double-click the file or use Import Book… from the top-right menu on the Your Books screen. See Importing a Book for the full walkthrough.
Accessing Book Management
To access these options, go to the Book Library (this is the screen you see when you first open Penpoint, or you can get back to it by clicking the back arrow at the bottom of the left-hand menu). Find the book you want to manage and click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the corner of its card.
