Open in Manuscript
The Chapters page and Manuscript Mode are two views of the same book. They share the same chapters and scenes, not copies. Use Chapters to plan details and Manuscript Mode to write prose.
Jumping to Manuscript Mode
Click Manuscript at the top-right of the chapter view. Penpoint opens the selected chapter, or goes directly to the selected scene.
You can also right-click (or Ctrl+click on Mac) any chapter or scene in the outline (the chapter-and-scene list on the left), then choose Open in Manuscript.
What Each View Edits
Both views let you rename and reorganize chapters and scenes or change their status and color. A scene added in Chapters appears in Manuscript Mode. Deleting a scene from either view removes it from both; Penpoint asks you to confirm because deletion cannot be undone.
Chapters is the main place for planning blocks such as Calendar, Characters, Locations, Items, and Story Arcs. Manuscript Mode handles prose, formatting, writing tools, and chapter title or subtitle edits.
For the full picture of how Manuscript Mode works, see Manuscript Mode.
Tip: Planning details and prose are stored separately. Routine changes to blocks, status, or color do not rewrite prose, and editing prose does not replace those details.
Drafts From the Manuscript Outline
In Manuscript Mode, right-click a scene in the outline and choose Scene Drafts. Right-click any chapter and choose View Chapter Drafts.
Scene Drafts save one scene's prose. Chapter Drafts save all of the chapter's scenes, names, and order. Before restoring either kind, Penpoint saves your current prose asAuto-saved before restore, which you can restore to return to that writing. Restoring does not replace chapter-level details such as the chapter title.
For one-scene versions, see Scene Drafts.
For whole-chapter versions, see Chapter Drafts.
To compare a saved draft with your current writing, see Comparing Your Manuscript Drafts.
