Figure 1 - Number Block in View Mode (top) and Edit Mode (bottom)

A section that holds a number. You can set minimum and maximum limits, and use small arrow buttons to count up or down.

Number Blocks also work on chapter scenes — useful for things like word-count targets or per-scene tracking. See Chapter Block Types.

Common Uses

  • Age: Character ages
  • Height/Weight: Physical measurements
  • Stats: Strength, intelligence, etc.
  • Ratings: 1-10 scales for skills or influence
  • Dates: Birth year, year of death
  • Counts: Books written, battles fought, years of service

Min/Max Validation

Set minimum and maximum values to catch unrealistic entries. Values outside the range turn red.

  • Age: min 0, max 120
  • Rating scale: min 1, max 10
  • Stats: min 1, max 100

Tip: Use min/max validation to catch data entry errors. If you accidentally type -5 for age, the red color alerts you immediately.

Calculate Blocks

Number Blocks can be used in math formulas with Calculate Blocks:

  • Current year minus "Birth Year" = Age
  • "Strength" + "Intelligence" = Total stats

See Calculate Block for more on formulas.
