Images in the Notebook
The Notebook lets you upload and organize reference images: character sketches, maps, mood boards, or any visual inspiration for your story.
Uploading Images
There are two ways to add images:
- Toolbar button: Click the Image button in the toolbar at the top of the Notebook and pick files from your computer
- Drag and drop: Drag image files from your computer directly onto the Notebook page you're currently viewing
Supported formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP. Images can be up to 20 MB each.
When you upload an image, a dialog appears where you can give it a name (up to 100 characters) and an optional note (up to 500 characters). If you're uploading multiple images at once, you'll work through them one at a time; you can skip any image or use Cancel All to stop adding the rest.
Tip: The image name is auto-filled from the filename, so you can skip the naming step if the filename is already descriptive.
Viewing Images
Click any image to open a larger view on the right side of the screen. From there, you can:
- Zoom: Scroll your mouse wheel to zoom in very close or zoom way out. The current zoom level is shown at the bottom of the viewer.
- Move around: When zoomed in, click and drag the image to move around it
- Fit to screen: Click the number showing the current zoom level at the bottom-right and choose Fit to see the whole image again, or double-click the image to snap back to the default view
Your zoom level and position are remembered for each image, so you can pick up right where you left off.
Editing Image Details
To change the image's name or description, press Ctrl+E (or Cmd+E on Mac) while viewing an image, or click the pencil icon in the top-right corner of the viewer. Changes save automatically; click the pencil icon again when you're done to leave editing.
Managing Images
Right-click (or Ctrl+click on Mac) an image to see its options:
- Edit Title: Rename the image (also triggered by pressing F2)
- Move to Folder: Move the image to a different folder (it will be removed from the folder it's currently in)
- Save to Disk: Download the image back to your computer
- Duplicate: Create a copy of the image
- Delete: You'll be asked to confirm first. Deleting an image is permanent and cannot be undone, so use Save to Disk first if you want to keep a copy. If you just want to hide an image, consider moving it to a folder for images you no longer need.
