Managing Traits
The Traits settings page is where you define trait categories and their dropdown options. Traits are reusable character attributes like alignment, eye color, or personality type that can be assigned to multiple characters.
Why Use Traits?
Traits help you track categorical attributes across your cast. Instead of typing "Lawful Good" repeatedly in different characters, create an Alignment trait once with all possible values (Lawful Good, Chaotic Neutral, True Neutral, etc.). Then assign the appropriate value to each character.
Once defined here, traits appear as dropdown menus in character edit mode via the Trait Block.
Creating Traits
Click Add New Trait to create a new trait category. Give it a descriptive name like "Eye Color", "Personality Type", or "Faction".
Tip: Use trait names that describe the category, not individual values. For example, name the trait "Alignment" (not "Lawful Good") and add alignment options like "Lawful Good", "Chaotic Evil", etc.
Managing Options
Click any trait card in the grid to select it. The selected trait's options appear in the detail panel below, where you can add, edit, archive, or delete individual options.
- Add options: Click "Add Subtrait" in the detail panel header. Use the +1 button to add multiple options at once before saving
- Edit options: Hover over an option and click the edit icon to rename it
- Archive options: Hover over an option and click the archive icon
- Delete options: Hover over an option and click the trash icon
Sorting Options
Use the Sort dropdown in the detail panel to control how options are ordered:
- A-Z: Alphabetical order
- Date Added: Most recently added first
- Most Used: Options assigned to the most characters appear first
- Custom Order: Drag and drop options to arrange them in any order you like
Tip: When you drag an option to rearrange it, the sort mode automatically switches to Custom Order.
Archiving vs Deleting
Archive hides traits or options from view but preserves character assignments. Use this when you want to stop using a trait without losing existing data.
Delete permanently removes the trait or option and clears it from all characters. Use this for traits you created by mistake or truly don't need.
Tip: Toggle Show Archived in the header to view or restore archived traits and options.
Connecting Traits to Characters
After creating traits here, add Trait Blocks to your character layout in Settings > Character Sheet Setup. Each Trait Block links to one trait definition and displays its dropdown menu in character edit mode.
