Shortcuts
Shortcuts are quick links from the Notebook to characters, locations, items, chapters, notes, story arcs, tags, and other parts of your book. Think of them as bookmarks: they point to things in your book without duplicating anything. You can gather related shortcuts in one folder to keep everything organized.
Creating Shortcuts
Click the Shortcut button in the toolbar at the top of the Notebook, or right-click (or Ctrl+click on Mac) any empty space and choose Add Shortcut. A search dialog opens where you can find and select anything in your book.
Type to search, then use the arrow keys or click to select an entry. Results are grouped by type (Characters, Items, Locations, Chapters, and so on), so you can quickly find what you're looking for.
Using Shortcuts
Click a shortcut to jump straight to the page it points to. For example, clicking a character shortcut takes you to that character's profile on the Characters page.
Each shortcut displays the name and an icon indicating its type.
Tip: Combine shortcuts with Smart Folders (folders that automatically collect entries sharing a specific tag) to gather everything related to a topic. For example, a "Chapter 1" Smart Folder could contain shortcuts to every character, location, and item tagged with "Chapter 1."
Managing Shortcuts
Right-click (or Ctrl+click on Mac) a shortcut to see its options:
- Go to Alice (or whatever the shortcut points to): Jump to the linked character, location, or other page
- Move to Folder...: Move the shortcut to a different folder
- Duplicate: Create a copy of the shortcut, useful if you want the same link in multiple folders
- Delete: Remove the shortcut. This does not delete the original character, location, or other content from your book; it only removes the link to it.
Broken Shortcuts
Note: If the thing a shortcut points to has been deleted from your book, the shortcut will show a red "deleted" label next to its name. You can safely delete a broken shortcut; it only removes the link, not anything else in your book.
