Items
The Items page helps you track objects in your story: weapons, artifacts, documents, vehicles, or any other significant items your characters interact with.
Whether you're managing a fantasy hero's legendary sword collection or tracking clues in a mystery novel, Items keeps everything organized and connected to your characters.
What You Can Do
On the Items page, you can:
- Create items with custom types that match your story's needs
- View items in three display modes (Cards, Compact, or Standard)
- Filter by type, character, importance, tags, and more
- Sort items alphabetically, by creation date, or by importance
- Assign items to characters and add relationship notes
- Set single-character restrictions for unique items
- Assign items to locations and chapters to track where they appear
- Add descriptions, tags, and other details to each item
Note: Writing a series? Items are shared across every Book. Presence: Which Books a Character Is In controls where each one appears, and the This Book vs All Books view narrows this list.
Customizable Item Types
Every item has a type that defines what category it belongs to. Penpoint templates include default types like Personal Effects, Documents, Weapons & Armor, and more, but you can create your own custom types with unique icons.
To manage your item types, visit Settings > Items. You can add, remove, reorder, and customize types to match your story's genre and needs.
