Penpoint Cloud Settings
The Penpoint Cloud settings panel is located in Settings > Penpoint Cloud. It is the central place to manage your cloud backup, subscription, account, and devices.
Backup Health
The Backup health section shows how many books are backed up and how many need attention, such as a sync conflict or a failed upload. Books needing attention show a cloud icon on their cover.
Sync means your books stay identical everywhere, so a change on one computer appears in the cloud and on the rest.
A status line shows whether your books are up to date, with a Sync now button to sync manually.
Subscription
Shows your plan, billing period, and renewal date. You can switch to yearly billing, cancel or resume, and open Card and billing details to update your card and billing address in your browser.
See Managing Your Subscription for details on the two plans and how to change or cancel.
Account
The Account card shows your Penpoint Cloud email and gives you:
- Your Password and Recovery Kit: change your password
- Re-download Recovery Kit: replaces the Recovery Kit you saved during setup with a fresh one. Any signed-in computer can make a new one here
- Change Email: update your Penpoint Cloud account email
This Computer and Devices
The devices card lets you:
- Manage devices: see which computers are signed in, rename them, or remove old ones
- Pause Penpoint Cloud on this computer: pauses cloud backup and sync here until you choose Resume. Your local books keep saving normally, and resuming does not require your password.
- Ask for my password each time I open Penpoint: off by default. Turn it on to lock your cloud backups behind your password at every launch, useful on a shared computer.
- Sync my settings across all my computers: your theme, fonts, quote style, and other preferences follow you across your devices
- Sign out of Penpoint Cloud: signs this computer out. Your local books and local backups are untouched; sign back in any time with your password.
See Managing Your Devices for more on device limits, switching your active Backup device (the one computer currently sending backups to the cloud), and removing devices.
Danger Zone
There are two options for removing your cloud data.
- Permanently erase all cloud backups: your local books are never affected. This deletes every cloud backup, with no undo. It is the smaller action: your account and subscription stay active, so you can back up again later.
- Close my Penpoint Cloud account entirely: your local books are never affected. This is the larger, final step: it deletes your cloud data, cancels your subscription, and removes your account.
Locked out? If you forgot your password with no saved Recovery Kit and no signed-in computer, erasing your cloud backups is how to start fresh: it clears the old encrypted data so you can set a new password and back up again.
What Happens to My Data If I Cancel?
If you cancel, syncing stops at the end of the period you paid for, and the cloud copy is kept for 30 days after that: those days keep your data safe, but they don't hold the plan open, because a canceled subscription can't be restarted once the paid time has run out. After the 30 days, your cloud data is deleted by destroying the encryption key that unlocks it, so it can never be read or rebuilt again (Penpoint sends warning emails first); Choose a plan comes back then, and starting again means a new password and a fresh upload from this computer. A subscription that lapsed because a payment failed is the different case: update your card in Card and billing details and the cloud copy picks up where it left off, same password, nothing to re-upload.
If you close your account entirely, your account record and email are removed immediately, and your cloud data is gone within 24 hours. Because your books are encrypted with a key only you hold, once it is gone nothing is left to recover.
Your local books are never affected by cancellation or account closure. They stay on your computer and keep working offline as always.
