Locations
The Locations page helps you organize the places in your story. You can nest locations inside each other: for example, a kingdom containing cities, each city containing buildings.
Whether you're building a sprawling fantasy world or tracking a few key settings, the Locations page gives you complete control over how you structure and visualize your story's geography.
What You Can Do
On the Locations page, you can:
- Create locations with importance levels (labels like Primary, Secondary, or Background that help you track how significant a location is) and customizable types
- Put locations inside other locations: cities inside kingdoms, rooms inside buildings, and so on
- Show or hide the locations inside another location by clicking the small arrow next to it
- Sort locations by creation date, alphabetically, or by type
- Drag and drop to reorganize where locations sit in the list; changes are saved automatically, and you can always drag things back if you change your mind
- Track which characters and items are at each location
- Navigate using breadcrumb trails that show a location's full nesting path
Note: Writing a series? Locations are shared across every Book. Presence: Which Books a Character Is In controls where each one appears, and the This Book vs All Books view narrows this list.
Location Types
Every location can have a type (City, Region, Building, etc.) that you customize to match your story's needs. You decide what types exist and how they're ordered.
Manage your location types in Settings (the gear icon in the sidebar) under Location Types. You can create, edit, delete, and reorder types to match your world-building system.
Tip: If you delete a type, any locations using it will just show "No type selected" — the locations themselves are not deleted.
